In the case of the photoelectric effect experiment, explain the following facts, giving reasons. (a) The wave theory of light could not explain the existence of the threshold frequency. (b) The photoelectric current increases with increase of intensity of incident light.

Ans : a) According to wave theory photoelectrons can be emitted using high intensity incident light of any frequency. Hence, there is no need of threshold frequency for any given photosensitive surface.

b) Increase in intensity of light increases the number of incident photons. Hence the number of photoelectrons emitted and therefore, the photoelectric current increases.
